Ancora una prestazione convincente per il giovane kartista milanese, che supera le sfortune iniziali e si rende protagonista di un capolavoro in finale recuperando ben quattordici posizioni e chiudendo a ridosso della top ten assoluta
Chi la dura la vince. Potrebbe essere questo il motto più adatto per descrivere la prestazione di Alex Zucco sul Cremona Karting Circuit, in occasione del quarto round stagionale della WSK Super Master Series. Il giovane pilota del team DR Racing Kart si è infatti reso protagonista di una prestazione maiuscola nella finale, chiudendo al 14esimo posto assoluto dopo una rimonta esaltante e mettendosi alle spalle una serie di episodi poco fortunati che ne avevano condizionato le prestazioni nelle manche precedenti. Per il 15enne di Buccinasco si tratta di una nuova iniezione di fiducia in vista del prosieguo della stagione, che ora proseguirà con la prima tappa del Campionato Italiano ACI Karting in programma sempre a Cremona dal 19 al 21 Maggio.
Il portacolori della scuderia diretta da Danilo Rossi ha confermato quanto di buono messo in mostra già nel precedente appuntamento europeo di Zuera (Spagna), evidenziando una crescita costante che lo pone come uno tra i giovani talenti più interessanti nel panorama della KZ2. Nonostante la scarsa esperienza al cospetto degli avversari, Zucco ha cercato di sfruttare al meglio quanto imparato sul tracciato lombardo durante i test pre-stagionali, lottando come un leone per tutto l’arco del week-end e chiudendo con un finale da applausi che ha suscitato l’attenzione di numerosi addetti ai lavori.
In un contesto che lo vedeva a confronto con i principali esponenti della categoria, nel corso delle qualifiche Alex è stato in grado di ottenere una buona performance sul giro secco, riuscendo a realizzare il 19esimo miglior tempo assoluto (su uno schieramento che vedeva al via 29 partecipanti) in 46.527, a poco più di mezzo secondo dalla pole realizzata dal britannico Freddie Slater. La sequenza delle gare è quindi iniziata nel pomeriggio di Venerdì 28 Aprile: dopo un ottimo scatto al via della Manche 1, Zucco è stato coinvolto in un contatto che ha rallentato più piloti alla prima curva, retrocedendo sino alla P24. La rimonta sino al ventunesimo posto finale è stato però vanificata da una penalità post-gara di 5”, inflitta a causa del musetto rimasto danneggiato nelle concitate fasi di bagarre.
Anche il via della seconda manche ha visto Zucco finire nelle retrovie a causa di un contatto innescato da un avversario, ma nonostante ciò è riuscito a recuperare sino alla P18 sotto la bandiera a scacchi grazie ad un ottimo ritmo che lo ha collocato tra i piloti in assoluto più veloci in pista. La fortuna non è poi stata amica del pilota milanese nemmeno nella terza manche, quando è stato costretto al ritiro nelle battute conclusive in seguito ad un problema al piantone dello sterzo. L’ultima giornata della manifestazione, andata in scena Domenica 30 Aprile, ha poi visto Alex inizialmente impegnato nella Prefinale, in occasione della quale ha conservato la P26 dalla quale era scattato al via, nonostante un nuovo contatto lo avesse spedito in testacoda dopo pochi metri.
La Finale della categoria KZ2 ha quindi messo in palio il successo di tappa e quindi il titolo della WSK Super Masters Series, giunta al proprio quarto e decisivo appuntamento stagionale. Uno scatenato Zucco, partito dal fondo della griglia, ha dato vita ad una sequenza entusiasmante di sorpassi, girando con un ritmo indiavolato e riuscendo a recuperare posizioni su posizioni ogni giro. Alla fine, per lui è arrivata una meritata 14esima piazza sotto la bandiera a scacchi, dopo averne recuperate altrettante nel corso della gara, chiudendo a ridosso dei migliori ed impressionando favorevolmente il proprio team.

In finale mi sono potuto esprimere al massimo delle mie potenzialità, senza essere condizionato dagli episodi negativi che avevano compromesso il risultato nel corso delle manche precedenti. E’ stata una bella sensazione quella di finire a ridosso dei migliori, visto che comunque il livello degli avversari è molto alto e quasi tutti loro hanno un livello di esperienza nettamente superiore rispetto alla mia. Dopo questo risultato, adesso mi concentrerò sul test che ho in programma in monoposto per conseguire l’apposita licenza sul circuito di Cervesina, dopodiché penseremo al via del Campionato Italiano dove contiamo di proseguire questo trend positivo. A LOT OF DETERMINATION AND A GROWING FINAL FOR ALEX ZUCCO AT THE WSK IN CREMONA

Whoever lasts wins. This could be the most suitable motto to describe Alex Zucco’s performance on the Cremona Karting Circuit, in the fourth round of the WSK Super Master Series of the season. The young driver of the DR Racing Kart team was in fact the protagonist of an excellent performance in the final, finishing in 14th place overall after an exhilarating comeback and putting behind him a series of unlucky episodes that had conditioned his performance in the previous heats. For the 15-year-old from Buccinasco it is a new injection of confidence in view of the rest of the season, which will now continue with the first round of the Italian ACI Karting Championship also scheduled in Cremona from 19 to 21 May.
The driver of the team directed by Danilo Rossi confirmed the good things already shown in the previous European appointment in Zuera (Spain), highlighting a constant growth that places him as one of the most interesting young talents in the KZ2 scene. Despite the lack of experience in the presence of his opponents, Zucco tried to make the most of what he learned on the Lombard track during the pre-season tests, fighting like a lion throughout the weekend and closing with an applause finale that attracted the attention of many professionals.
In a context that saw him face to face with the main exponents of the category, during qualifying Alex was able to obtain a good performance on the flying lap, managing to set the 19th fastest time overall (on a grid that saw at the start 29 participants) in 46,527, just over half a second from the pole set by the British Freddie Slater. The sequence of races therefore began on the afternoon of Friday 28 April: after an excellent start at the start of Manche 1, Zucco was involved in a contact which slowed several riders at the first corner, dropping back to P24. The comeback up to the twenty-first place finish was however thwarted by a post-race penalty of 5”, inflicted due to the nose damaged in the frenetic phases of the fight.
Even the start of the second heat saw Zucco finish in the rear due to a contact triggered by an opponent, but despite this he managed to recover up to P18 under the checkered flag thanks to an excellent pace that placed him among the fastest on the track. Luck was not the Milanese driver’s friend not even in the third heat, when he was forced to retire in the closing stages following a problem with the steering column. The last day of the event, which took place on Sunday 30 April, then saw Alex initially engaged in the Prefinal, during which he kept the P26 from which he started at the start, despite a new contact that sent him into a spin after a few meters .
The Final of the KZ2 category therefore put the stage success up for grabs and therefore the title of the WSK Super Masters Series, now in its fourth and decisive round of the season. An unleashed Zucco, who started from the back of the grid, gave life to an exciting sequence of overtaking, lapping at a wild pace and managing to recover position after position each lap. In the end, a deserved 14th place came for him under the checkered flag, after having recovered as many during the race, finishing close to the best and favorably impressing his team.

In the final I was able to express myself to the fullest of my potential, without being conditioned by the negative episodes that had compromised the result during the previous heats. It was a good feeling to finish close to the best, given that in any case the level of the opponents is very high and almost all of them have a much higher level of experience than mine. After this result, I will now focus on the test I have scheduled in the single-seater to obtain the appropriate license on the Cervesina circuit, after which we will think about the start of the Italian Championship where we hope to continue this positive trend.
